11 People Infected in Bulk in Sancheong, Gyeongnam... 1 Dead and 23 More Added (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] As the third wave of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) continues to intensify in South Korea, cluster infections are ongoing in Gyeongnam Province, with one confirmed patient dying.
Gyeongnam Province announced that a man in his 70s, who was receiving treatment at Masan Medical Center, passed away around 6 p.m. on the 25th.
Patient number 1139 was confirmed positive on the 23rd and was being treated at Masan Medical Center; he was linked to the Geoje Hot Spring cluster. With this, the number of deaths in the province has risen to four.
According to the province, as of 5 p.m. on the same day, 23 new confirmed cases were reported: 11 in Sancheong, 5 in Jinju, 3 in Sacheon, 2 in Changwon, and 1 each in Geoje and Hadong.
The 11 cases in Sancheong were all contacts of Gyeongnam patient number 1174 (male in his 70s), who was confirmed the previous day with an unknown infection route. These included one woman in her 70s, six men in their 60s, three men in their 40s, and one man in his 50s, all confirmed at once and classified as patients 1177 through 1187. This is the first cluster infection reported in Sancheong.
In Jinju, four additional cases were reported, including three family infections. A woman in her 30s, a family contact, tested positive and was classified as patient 1175. An 8-year-old boy also tested positive as a family contact and was classified as patient 1190. Additionally, a woman in her 60s with an unknown infection route tested positive and was classified as patient 1192.
A man in his 20s, a family member of a Gyeongnam Provincial Office of Education employee, tested positive during self-quarantine and was classified as patient 1191. This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to the Provincial Office of Education to 11.
In Sacheon, a woman in her 60s, a man in his 50s, and a woman in her 50s tested positive and were classified as patients 1189, 1195, and 1196, respectively.
In Changwon, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 20s, both family members of confirmed cases with unknown infection routes, tested positive and were classified as patients 1193 and 1194, respectively.
In Hadong, a man in his 30s, a family contact, tested positive and was classified as patient 1188.
In Geoje, a woman in her 60s with an unknown infection route tested positive and was classified as patient 1176.
