According to the international statistics site Worldometer, as of 5:05 PM on the 26th (Korean time), the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide is 80,254,301. Considering that this site estimates the world population at approximately 7.83468 billion, more than 1% of the global population has been infected with COVID-19.
COVID-19 exceeded 10 million cumulative confirmed cases 179 days after it was reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) on December 31 last year as an "unknown pneumonia." Since then, the time taken for an additional 10 million cases has been steadily decreasing to 44 days, 38 days, 32 days, 21 days, 16 days, 16 days, 15 days, and so on.
So far, about one-quarter of the confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in the United States (approximately 19.21 million). India (approximately 10.17 million), Brazil (approximately 7.45 million), Russia (approximately 2.99 million), and France (approximately 2.55 million) followed.
The cumulative death toll has been recorded at 1,758,585. The United States also has the highest number of deaths, with about 338,000. This was followed by Brazil (about 190,000), India (about 150,000), Mexico (about 120,000), and Italy (about 70,000).
