Gwangju City Approves 224 Promotion Candidates for First Half of Next Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 24th that it held a personnel committee meeting and approved the promotion of a total of 224 people to fill vacancies due to organizational restructuring, merit leave, and honorary retirement: 3 people at grade 3, 11 people at grade 4 (including 2 acting positions), 40 people at grade 5, 76 people at grade 6, 62 people at grade 7, and 32 people at grade 8.
This promotion was conducted under the personnel principles centered on ‘work and performance’ to strengthen the driving force in the second half of the 7th local government term and stabilize the organization. Basically, for grade 4 and above, comprehensive consideration was given to work competency and job performance as managers, innovative leadership, integrity, and character. For grade 5 and below, the objective evaluation criteria based on the promotion candidate list ranking were respected, while some individuals who achieved results in current tasks were selected.
In particular, Jeong Dae-gyeong, head of the Parks and Greenery Division, who was promoted to grade 3, resolved the issue of the urban park sunset system by completing the official announcement of the implementation plan approval for 24 long-unexecuted urban parks. Lee Chi-seon, head of the Future Industry Policy Division, contributed to fostering 11 representative industries and nurturing artificial intelligence talent.
Bae Bok-hwan, head of the Military Airport Policy Division, was recognized for his efforts in creating an environment and spreading public consensus for the relocation of the military airport despite difficult conditions.
Additionally, many candidates who made significant contributions to major city administration issues, such as the creation of the Gwangju-type job and artificial intelligence business ecosystem?key projects of the 7th local government term?the establishment of childcare infrastructure to address low birth rates, the launch of the Gwangju Tourism Foundation to restore Gwangju’s uniqueness, and measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, were promoted in large numbers.
Kim Jong-hwa, the city’s Personnel Policy Officer, stated, “Following the transfer personnel appointments for grade 4 and above department heads effective January 1 next year, we will complete the transfer appointments for grade 5 and below by January 18 to ensure organizational stability so that various pending projects in the second half of the 7th local government term proceed without disruption.”
Meanwhile, this promotion is the largest in the 7th local government term, with increased promotion factors due to the establishment of the Free Economic Zone Authority, additional long-term education quotas (2 people at grade 4) following the grand prize award at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Personnel Innovation Competition, and the discovery of new dispatches to central government departments.
