The '2020 Teacher of the Year Award,' hosted by the Ministry of Education, selected a total of six final recipients from among regular teachers recommended by 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide and the public.

View original imageIn Daegu, Kim Geon-ho from Daegu Wangseon Elementary School and Kim Han-su from Neungin Middle School were chosen as awardees and received commendations from the Minister of Education.
Teacher Kim Geon-ho was recognized for actively supporting students and parents by producing and distributing video content such as 'Wise Meals in Response to COVID-19' and 'Morning Health Self-Diagnosis' early this year when the educational field was thrown into confusion due to COVID-19.
Teacher Kim also produced video content titled 'Accurately Understanding and Properly Preventing MERS' during the MERS outbreak in 2015. In addition to creating video content, he operated a pilot remote class school in 2020, developing and implementing a remote class roadmap, contributing to the stable establishment of remote classes in schools across the Daegu area.
Kim Geon-ho said in his acceptance speech, "During these difficult times, we were able to wisely overcome the crisis thanks to the dedication of fellow teachers who worked together to find answers in school education, the generous support of the education office, and the infinite trust shown by students and parents."

In August, he completed a 633 km bicycle ride from the Nakdong River Estuary Barrage in Busan to the Ara Water Gate in Seohae, Incheon, raising 9.5 million won, which he donated as scholarships to three students suffering from incurable diseases and difficulties caused by COVID-19, continuously carrying out various scholarship projects.
He has also been running the happy family camp program 'Stars Shine in the Night Sky,' a 1-night, 2-day camping activity with students and parents, since 2010, which has been evaluated as practicing true education.
Kim Han-su pledged, "I was able to reach this point thanks to the parents and teachers who help together. I will always be a teacher who is with the children."
