View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Park Mo (35), a consumer raising young children, breathed a sigh of relief after using an auto formula milk pot. She noticed black substances in the baby bottle and upon inspecting the formula pot, found that the inner coating was completely peeled off. When she wiped it with a kitchen towel, it was covered with black foreign substances. Park said, "Thinking that I fed my child water from here until now made my hands and feet tremble." The auto formula milk pot has become an essential childcare item as it automatically dispenses water according to the baby's age and can keep the formula warm.
On consumer communities including large mom cafes, posts have been continuously appearing reporting foreign substances coming from a product currently on the market. The product in question is manufactured and sold by mid-sized home appliance company Cuchen, and it was found that parts of the pot’s inner container were discolored or that black foreign substances appeared when wiped with tissue paper.
Cuchen explained, "The ceramic coating applied to the product passed tests based on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards," adding, "Safety tests on water boiled in samples with damaged ceramic coating found no heavy metals or substances harmful to the human body, and results showed that ceramic coating components do not remain in the body after consuming water boiled in damaged samples." They also stated that products where foreign substances were detected are being recalled and refunded.
However, consumer complaints and concerns have not subsided. They argue that even products without foreign substances should be eligible for exchange or refund if the consumer requests it. At a service center in the Seoul metropolitan area, it is known that a product without foreign substances was recalled and refunded after the consumer repeatedly raised issues.

Cuchen stated, "Although response guidelines were delivered to each service center and engineer at the headquarters level, it seems they were not properly understood." Voices demanding the company provide detailed test reports and a pledge to take responsibility in case of future problems are also emerging. Upon the start of this news investigation, Cuchen belatedly disclosed part of the test report on their website on the afternoon of the 21st.
