Earlier, the previous day, Governor Lee posted on Facebook titled "South Korea with minimal fiscal deficit, I am curious about Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki's thoughts," criticizing Deputy Prime Minister Hong's fiscal policy. He pointed out, "Recently, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) announced that South Korea's general government fiscal deficit is 4.2% of the gross domestic product (GDP), ranking fourth smallest among 42 major countries," and asked, "Are you proud? If so, we must seriously doubt your competence as an economic bureaucrat." He continued, "If you save fiscal resources during wartime but fail to properly treat the wounded, the country must bear greater losses from permanent disabilities," and added, "Saving surgery costs during war is not something to be proud of but rather a certification of being a stingy miser of low standards."
