Hyundai Construction "Donates 280 Million Won by Collecting Salary Change"
Over 32,000 Participants in 10 Years, 3.3 Billion KRW Delivered
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on the 23rd that it donated 280 million KRW collected from employees' salary change over the past year, from December last year to last month.
Employees of Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Hyundai Comprehensive Design donated approximately 280 million KRW from the 'Love Sharing Fund' collected through salary contributions over one year to the Community Chest of Korea located in Jeong-dong, Gwanghwamun, Seoul on the 16th.
The donation event was attended by Kim Junho, Chairman of the Hyundai Engineering & Construction Labor Union, Ahn Jaebong, Team Leader of Hyundai Comprehensive Design, and Kim Yeonsun, Secretary General of the Community Chest of Korea. The funds will be used for social contribution activities to help neighbors in need near Hyundai Engineering & Construction’s domestic and overseas business sites.
The Love Sharing Fund has been ongoing for 10 years since 2010, based on voluntary salary contributions from employees. So far, a total of about 32,000 employees have raised approximately 3.3 billion KRW and donated it to local communities.
The employees' donations have been used for various support projects for community and public facilities in countries such as Bangladesh and Indonesia, domestic COVID-19 relief support, residential environment improvement projects in the Jongno area, and food support projects for vulnerable groups.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Engineering & Construction carried out various social contribution activities throughout this year. Based on these efforts, it won the Grand Prize in the Social Sector at the '2020 Global Standard Management Awards' hosted by the Korea Management Registrar (KMR).
Earlier this year, livelihood support kits were delivered through Plan Korea to residents in Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Busan who were struggling due to the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, 500 blood donation certificates collected by Hyundai Engineering & Construction employees last year were donated to places in need. Hyundai Engineering & Construction also conducted employee blood donation campaigns quarterly to alleviate blood shortages. This year, 357 employees voluntarily participated in the blood donation campaign after undergoing pre-temperature checks.
The 'Dream Growth Mentoring Activities,' which donate the talents of employees in construction, civil engineering, and other fields to help youth explore career paths, have been ongoing for seven years. The 'Hillstate Dream Growth Mentoring Volunteer Group' has involved about 100 employees over the past six years.
In January, the 'Happy Move Global Youth Volunteer Group' conducted activities for 12 nights and 13 days near the Matabari port site construction project in Bangladesh. In May, COVID-19 relief supplies worth 25,000 USD along with 3,000 donated items (clothing, miscellaneous goods) from employees were delivered to the Hakim Foundation under the Iraqi government and welfare facilities near Hyundai Engineering & Construction’s site in Iraq.
Domestically, Hyundai Engineering & Construction collaborated with Hanam City to carry out the 'Cool Roof Hanam' project, painting heat-reflective paint on the roofs of old buildings for energy-vulnerable groups.
A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official said, "Despite difficult times such as the spread of COVID-19, voluntary sharing activities and participation by employees continued throughout the year," adding, "We will continue to lead social contribution activities that give back to local communities in domestic and overseas regions and discover and carry out activities that address social issues such as environment and safety."
