Hamyang County Selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 2021 Signboard Improvement Project Competition
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, recently achieved the remarkable feat of being selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Beautiful Signboard Improvement Project for three consecutive years.
With this selection, the county secured 120 million KRW in national funding to carry out a signboard improvement project for 57 stores along the section from Seosang-myeon Office to Seosang Middle School.
The county has consistently challenged the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's public contests, improving signboards for 87 stores along the ‘Health Center~Terminal~Hamyang-eup Police Substation section’ through the 2019 Goun Handeul-ro Signboard Improvement Project, and for 116 stores along the ‘Hamyang-eup Police Substation~Dongmun Intersection~Hamyang Middle School Intersection section’ through the 2020 Good Morning Hamyang-ro Signboard Improvement Project.
The county has become a model for domestic signboard improvement projects, having been selected as the target site for the ‘Domestic Outdoor Advertising Excellent Area Video On-site Learning’ conducted by the Korea Outdoor Advertising Association.
Based on the experience accumulated from conducting two public contest projects, the county plans to replace the signboards in the downtown area of Seosang-myeon, which attracts many tourists, with modern trend and local characteristics. Through the 2021 Hamyang Wild Ginseng Expo, it aims to offer an impressive landscape to the many tourists visiting Seosang-myeon and solidify its position as a representative tourist destination of Hamyang-gun.

A county official stated, “The residents’ willingness to participate and the necessity of creating a landscape for the Expo were the foundations for achieving the remarkable feat of being selected for the public contest project three years in a row,” adding, “Through this project, we expect not only to create a pleasant and clean street landscape in Seosang-myeon but also to revitalize the local economy and establish a safe village.”
