The urban regeneration recognition project is a project that aligns with the living area regeneration direction of the urban regeneration strategic plan for urban declining areas. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held a nationwide contest for local governments in October, and after document and on-site evaluations and deliberation by the Urban Regeneration Special Committee under the Prime Minister, the final selection was made.
The selected project will invest 6.5 billion KRW over three years (3.9 billion KRW from the national government, 2.6 billion KRW from local government) and will establish the ‘Sangdong Areumdri Forest Gol Eoullim Center’ to build a complex community center reflecting the characteristics of Sangdong Village, which has a high aging index, and to lay the foundation for community revitalization.
The detailed plans for the Sangdong Village urban regeneration recognition project include ▲ Forest Gol cultural classes through the construction of the Sangdong Forest Gol Eoullim Center ▲ Senior health promotion room and health management ▲ Establishment of joint childcare play experience and childcare worker rest area ▲ Resident and operator education projects for the operation of the Eoullim Center and program promotion.
Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang-gun, said, “Through this Sangdong urban regeneration project, we will appropriately respond to urban problems such as aging population and village depopulation while creating new vitality for the city.”
Since the launch of the 7th local government administration, the county has been promoting the ‘Urban Regeneration New Deal Project’ as a key project to secure new growth engines for the city, such as urban space innovation and resident community revitalization in underdeveloped and declining cities.
