Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education to Implement 'Full Remote Classes' for Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, and High Schools Until February Next Year... "Graduation Ceremonies Will Be Held by Class"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 22nd that it will apply a more stringent Level 3 social distancing than the Ministry of Education standards and implement 'remote classes for all students' from the 28th of this month until the end of February next year.
On the 16th, the Office of Education had established school attendance criteria such as 'one-third density within schools,' but recently, due to the continued spread of local infections in places like churches, it decided to take this measure.
However, limited in-person classes are allowed for elementary after-school care, final exams, or when necessary for school-specific academic operations. Basic academic guidance and after-school programs will be operated in compliance with quarantine rules.
Additionally, graduation ceremonies will be held in person but dispersed across multiple classrooms and conducted by class units. Entry of parents and outsiders is prohibited.
176 elementary schools and 9 high schools will begin winter vacation on the 24th. Therefore, under this measure, schools operating remote classes from December 28 include 54 elementary schools (out of 230 total), 124 middle schools (out of 124 total), and 85 high schools (out of 94 total).
Kindergartens will also conduct remote classes for all students except those in care. Special schools will operate remote classes, but if students wish, one-on-one, one-on-two, or home-visit classes will be provided.
