Gwangju Seo-gu Haegwang Daedeok Mujigae Apartment Designated as a 'No-Smoking Apartment'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Seo Daeseok) announced on the 22nd that Kumho 1-dong Haegwang Daedeok Mujigae Apartment has been designated as a 'No-Smoking Apartment.'
The no-smoking area in multi-family housing is a place where, according to Article 9, Paragraph 5 of the National Health Promotion Act, with the consent of more than half of the household heads in the multi-family housing, areas such as hallways, stairs, elevators, and some or all of the underground parking lot are designated as no-smoking zones.
Kumho 1-dong Haegwang Daedeok Mujigae Apartment obtained consent from 162 households for stairs, 163 households for elevators, and 171 households for the underground parking lot out of a total of 288 households.
After about three months of promotion and guidance, starting from April 1 next year, a fine of 50,000 won will be imposed if smoking is detected in the designated no-smoking areas within the apartment.
The Seo-gu Public Health Center will support signboards, signs, banners, stickers, etc., to promote the no-smoking apartment within the multi-family housing and will continue to provide guidance and enforcement regarding the no-smoking areas.
A representative from the Seo-gu Public Health Center said, "Due to the impact of COVID-19, the time spent at home has increased, causing more harm to non-smoking residents from smoking in common areas of apartments. We will expand the designation of no-smoking areas in multi-family housing and strengthen guidance and enforcement against smoking in these areas to prevent secondhand smoke damage and reduce smoking rates."
