Dobong-gu Public Wi-Fi: 200 Additional Units Installed
In addition to the existing 128 Wi-Fi units, 200 more installed in outdoor public areas with high foot traffic... 30 Wi-Fi zones built along Jungnangcheon through citizen participation budget. 'Wi-Fi 6' offers speeds 4 times faster than before, providing strong Wi-Fi even while running along Jungnangcheon.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) plans to launch the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s public Wi-Fi service, Kkachion, to residents by Christmas Eve, December 24.
Dobong-gu signed a business agreement on September 9 for the construction and operation of the Smart Seoul Network (S-Net), securing 3.046 billion KRW in city funds, and plans to complete the installation of an additional 200 public Wi-Fi units within the district by December 24 this year.
With this, Dobong-gu will build a dense Wi-Fi network totaling 328 units by adding 200 units to the existing 128 public Wi-Fi installations.
Additionally, by investing 130 million KRW from the citizen participation budget, 30 public Wi-Fi units will be installed along the section from Nowon Bridge to Sanggye Bridge on Jungnangcheon Stream, allowing nearby residents to continuously use Wi-Fi while exercising or walking.
The public Wi-Fi Kkachion service will be installed in outdoor public living areas within the district with high foot traffic, including main streets, parks, rivers, stations, plazas, traditional markets, and bus stops as representative service areas. However, indoor spaces, underground shopping centers, private areas, residential complexes, and other private buildings are excluded.
The 'Wi-Fi 6' equipment installed for the Kkachion service is four times faster than previous models and uses enhanced encryption methods, providing users with a highly secure environment that prevents personal information leakage.
Dobong-gu’s strong commitment to this project and the expected effects of bridging the digital divide were recognized, leading to its selection as the first and second target site for the Smart Seoul Network (S-Net) construction project among Seoul’s autonomous districts on June 10, securing 3 billion KRW in city funds. Subsequently, on September 9, Dobong-gu signed a business agreement with Seoul Metropolitan Government for the construction and operation of the Smart Seoul Network (S-Net).
Through this project, Dobong-gu has taken a significant step toward establishing a ‘future smart city infrastructure’ by providing public Wi-Fi throughout the public living areas, fully guaranteeing the basic communication rights of local residents. It is also expected to help reduce communication costs for residents during the economically challenging times caused by COVID-19.
