APAC Intangible Heritage Center Signs MOU with Indonesian Government
Joint Hosting of International Conferences and Festivals, Academic Exchanges through Seminars and Workshops
The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Intangible Cultural Heritage Center signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian Cultural Heritage City Network (JKPI) via video conference on the 21st. The two organizations will carry out various cooperative projects to protect intangible cultural heritage in the Asia-Pacific region and build networks. These include co-hosting international conferences and festivals, as well as academic exchange activities such as seminars and workshops. Geum Ki-hyung, Secretary-General of the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Intangible Cultural Heritage Center, stated, "Although difficulties will arise due to the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we will continue to conduct various cooperative projects through steady mutual exchanges." JKPI is a government organization founded in 2008 by Indonesian President Joko Widodo with the aim of protecting cultural heritage at the regional level and fostering network cooperation. It pursues the protection of cultural heritage among Indonesian cities, cultural diversity, and the enhancement of cultural understanding.
