Among the three, two researchers (An Hong-chan and Lee Dong-hyun) were recognized for their contributions to the development of health and medical technology industries and received the 'Government Award for Contributions to the Promotion of Health and Medical Technology' from the Korea Health Industry Development Institute. One researcher (Wi Gap-in) was selected as a '2020 LMO Safety Contributor' by the Ministry of Science and ICT and received a ministerial commendation.
The Korea Health Industry Development Institute held an online awards ceremony on the 18th. Two researchers from the foundation, Senior Researcher An Hong-chan and Researcher Lee Dong-hyun, were selected. Due to COVID-19, the Ministry of Science and ICT did not hold a separate ceremony, and the recipient of the Minister of Science and ICT Award was Senior Researcher Wi Gap-in.
Senior Researcher An Hong-chan, who works in the Metabolic Disease Team at the Foundation’s New Drug Development Support Center, was selected for two national research and development projects this year and has published 25 excellent papers over the past six years. Notably, in 2018, he published a synthesis method of cyclic peptide natural products in ACIE (Angewandte Chemie International Edition, IF 12.959), a top journal in the field of chemistry, attracting significant attention from the academic community.
This year, Dr. An, who also co-authored a review paper on PPAR delta-targeted new drug development, graduated from Seoul National University College of Pharmacy, worked at the Scripps Research Institute in Florida, USA, and then joined the foundation as a pharmaceutical synthesis expert.
Researcher Lee Dong-hyun, working in the Medical Device Evaluation Team at the Foundation’s Laboratory Animal Center, was recognized for his contributions to advancing national health and medical technology by supporting non-clinical evaluations of various medical devices. Over seven years, he has published 34 papers, one book, and filed 12 patents.
Senior Researcher Wi Gap-in, working in the Disease Model Team at the Foundation’s Laboratory Animal Center, is responsible for the foundation’s biosafety management. He established regulations for biosafety management at the foundation, developed waste management guidelines, and set up emergency response systems for safety accidents, thereby building the foundation’s safety management infrastructure.
