Chonnam National University Hospital Selected as 'Best Institution' in Ministry of Health Public Health Care Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Chonnam National University Hospital has been selected as the best institution for public health care projects by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
According to Chonnam National University Hospital on the 21st, in the 2019 public health care plan implementation evaluation (public health care plan evaluation and implementation plan performance evaluation for outstanding organizations) conducted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare targeting 14 national university hospitals nationwide including public health care institutions, Chonnam National University Hospital scored a total of 89.5 points, far exceeding the overall average (83.8 points), and received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award, the highest institution award.
Thus, Chonnam National University Hospital earned the honor of being the best institution for the second time following 2017, and has proven itself as the top medical institution providing high-quality public health care services, having been selected as an excellent institution from 2014 to 2016 and in 2018.
Also, in this evaluation, Chonnam National University Hospital’s Public Health Care Project Office medical social worker Choi Yoon-hee was selected for the individual category Minister of Health and Welfare Commendation for her contributions in actively promoting public health care projects by coordinating in-hospital public health care projects, supporting projects through linkage with local public medical institutions, and leading joint project development.
This evaluation was conducted in four areas (35 detailed indicators): strengthening publicness, quality appropriate treatment, health safety net, and unmet services.
As a comprehensive evaluation result, Chonnam National University Hospital was positively evaluated for systematically organizing the reflections on opinions from the public health care plan review while performing various projects based on the basic public health care plan overall.
Also, the activities of the Love Sharing Medical Volunteer Group, led by the hospital director, were cited as an excellent case for providing stable medical support to vulnerable residents.
Furthermore, efforts for multifaceted medical volunteer services such as for foreign workers, multicultural families, street homeless people, facilities for people with disabilities, and overseas medical volunteer work were highly praised.
Chonnam National University Hospital has developed and distributed CP, a standard clinical guideline applicable to regional medical institutions, to strengthen medical publicness, and has worked to establish a medical cooperation network among regional cooperative hospitals.
Additionally, efforts have been made to provide appropriate treatment and high-quality medical services through installing screen doors to improve hospital visit culture and continuous management and improvement of indicators for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
It also contributed to building a medical safety net through establishing an integrated health care welfare support system and medical support projects for vulnerable patients (vulnerable patient counseling, medical expense support, medical service support projects for marginalized groups such as foreign workers, and the Health Care Welfare 301 Network project).

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health conducts an annual public health care plan implementation evaluation to assess whether public health care institutions effectively provide the quality public health care required by the people and contribute to improving public health, and informs the results to the respective institutions to reflect them in project execution.
