President Moon's Approval Rating Rises to 39.5% "Impact of Resolving Conflict Between Choo and Yoon" [Realmeter]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A public opinion poll revealed that President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his national administration, which hit its lowest point since his inauguration last week, rebounded after three weeks, approaching the 40% range.
According to Realmeter's survey commissioned by YTN conducted from the 14th to the 18th, the positive evaluation of President Moon's national administration rose by 2.8 percentage points from the previous week's weekly aggregate to 39.5%, the agency announced on the 21st. Negative evaluations decreased by 0.5 percentage points to 57.7%. The gap between positive and negative evaluations remains outside the margin of error at 18.2 percentage points.
It is analyzed that President Moon's direct involvement in major issues such as disciplinary actions against Prosecutor General Yoon contributed to consolidating his support base. A Realmeter official stated, "In the phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, resolving the 'Chu-Yoon conflict,' and handling amendments to the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (Hugae Gongsoocheo) and National Intelligence Service Act, the president increased his media exposure frequency and message intensity, directly engaging with key issues."
In fact, support among progressives rose by 6.4 percentage points from the previous week to 66.0%. By age group, the traditional support base in their 40s showed an increase of 2.3 percentage points to 48.6% compared to the previous week. However, negative evaluations slightly outpaced positive ones at 49.9%. Regionally, support in the Gwangju and Jeolla areas declined by 1.6 percentage points to 57.9%, with negative evaluations at 40.4%.
Regarding party support, the People Power Party maintained its support rate at 31.6% with no change from the previous week, while the Democratic Party dropped by 0.2 percentage points to 30.6%. The gap between the two parties' support rates was 1.0 percentage point, remaining within the margin of error for three consecutive weeks. In Seoul, where the mayoral by-election will be held in April next year, the People Power Party and the Democratic Party recorded support rates of 31.9% and 27.5%, respectively.
Support rates for parties other than the two major ones were as follows: People Party and Open Democratic Party each at 7.2%, Justice Party at 3.4%, Basic Income Party at 1.0%, and Transition Korea at 0.6%.
