Kwon Eun-hee: "Ahn Cheol-soo's Joining People Power Party Is Not a Good Choice"
"South Korea Crisis Situation... Opposition Politicians Must Risk Their Careers"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Kwon Eun-hee, floor leader of the People’s Party, stated on the 21st regarding the method of selecting a unified opposition candidate for next year’s Seoul mayoral by-election, “Given the current situation, (Ahn Cheol-soo’s entry into the People Power Party) does not seem to be a good choice.”
On the same day, on CBS Radio’s ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show,’ Floor Leader Kwon discussed various unification methods such as last-minute unification, primary elections after joining the People Power Party, and a coalition of opposition candidates, saying, “The People Power Party is also experiencing diverse opinions on which method would be best, so I think we need to have discussions.”
When asked whether “everyone would go together if Ahn joins the People Power Party,” Floor Leader Kwon replied, “We do not see it as a good choice, so there has been no concrete discussion on that matter.”
Regarding Rep. Jung Cheong-rae of the Democratic Party of Korea saying “they won’t be able to complete the race,” Floor Leader Kwon said, “That was just his wishful thinking,” adding, “They changed their party constitution to field a candidate despite their own responsibility for not being able to nominate one. It is regrettable that they seem unaware of this and yet criticize others when they are in no position to do so.”
