[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced the results of the vote for the ‘2020 Seongdong-gu Top 10 News,’ which reviewed the major policies promoted throughout the year and selected the policies that resonated most with residents.
The vote was conducted over two weeks from November 30 to December 13 on the district office website and the employee-only system, targeting Seongdong-gu residents and employees. Among 20 major policies promoted this year, each person could select up to five projects.
Since 2020 is hard to explain without mentioning COVID-19, the residents showed high interest in COVID-19-related policies in this year’s Seongdong-gu Top 10 News as well.
The policy that most supported residents’ lives this year was the ‘Operation of COVID-19 Screening Clinics,’ which received the most votes. This reflects the residents’ respect and gratitude toward the medical staff and officials who struggled under difficult circumstances to overcome COVID-19.
Seongdong-gu has been providing rapid COVID-19 testing through the operation of screening clinics equipped with negative pressure facilities to prevent community infection and has taken proactive measures such as arranging seats to maintain social distancing among those tested.
Life-oriented policies incorporating smart technology also received strong responses from residents. The second place was taken by the ‘Seongdong-type Smart Shelter,’ a futuristic bus stop that integrates various cutting-edge technologies. It is equipped with heating and cooling systems so that passengers can wait comfortably, and it is safely managed 24 hours remotely by the Smart City Integrated Control Center. Following that, the ‘Seongdong-type Smart Crosswalk’ was selected as third place. It helps residents walk safely through floor traffic lights and pedestrian danger detection.
Additionally, creative and innovative COVID-19 response policies promoted by Seongdong-gu made it into the Top 10 News. The representative psychological quarantine projects that comforted residents exhausted by the prolonged COVID-19 situation, the ‘Drive-thru & Walking-thru Book Loan Service’ and the ‘Salgoti Moonlight Drive-in Theater,’ were ranked fourth and ninth, respectively.
In particular, the ‘Seongdong-type Mobile Electronic Log’ system, ranked fifth, and the ‘Essential Workers Support’ program, ranked seventh, were policies first initiated in Seongdong-gu and later spread nationwide.
