Who Will Step Down as Deputy Mayors of Seoul's Autonomous Districts?
Seoul Jung-gu, Seongdong-gu, Jungnang-gu, Seongbuk-gu Deputy District Chiefs Expected to Be Replaced, Successor Interest Grows... Some District Offices Face Calls for Deputy Chiefs' Replacement Due to Communication Issues with Officials
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The year-end and New Year period is a time of both joy and tears for public officials due to promotions and transfers.
It is a contrasting period where those promoted smile, while those who fail must swallow their tears.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to carry out transfer personnel changes around the 24th, effective January 1 of next year.
Meanwhile, the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul are also expected to reveal the outlines of deputy district heads coming into and leaving the city hall.
In particular, ahead of the April 13 by-election for Seoul Mayor next year, those who have served as deputy district heads in the autonomous districts for 1 to 2 years are expected to move into city hall.
Along with this, director-level executives who have undergone training this year will be transferred to deputy district head positions in the autonomous districts.
Among the deputy district heads known so far are Director A of Jung-gu, Director B of Seongdong-gu, Director C of Jungnang-gu, and Director D of Seongbuk-gu, who are reportedly almost confirmed.
There are also rumors that one of the two deputy district heads with technical positions will move into city hall.
Especially, as technical deputy district heads have been pointed out to have communication problems with district executives, there is growing speculation that their positions will become even more limited in the future.
Additionally, depending on the wishes of district heads and deputy district heads themselves, the number may increase by about one or two, drawing attention.
In response to this news, executives at the level of department head or higher in the autonomous districts are also on edge.
One department head in an autonomous district said, “It is true that we hope for deputy district heads who not only have ability but also possess character that does not cause communication problems with district executives, but it is also a bit worrisome.”

This appears to be a voice of concern that deputy district heads who are unfamiliar with local conditions might be appointed and act authoritatively toward executives.
