After the daily confirmed cases peaked at 122 on March 6, and then dropped to 31 on March 8, the highest number of confirmed cases in about nine months has surged again in various parts of Gyeongbuk, with 31 cases on the 17th and 29 cases on the 18th.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 19th, as of midnight that day, the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the region increased by 29 from the previous day to 1,920 (including 106 imported cases, based on Gyeongbuk Province's own tally).
The new confirmed cases were evenly distributed across eight cities and counties: Gyeongju 7, Gumi 6, Pohang, Andong, and Gyeongsan 4 each, Gimcheon 2, and Yeongju and Gunwi 1 each.
In Gyeongju, among the 7 new confirmed cases, 5 are family members and relatives of the confirmed case on the 17th (Pohang case number 172). The other 2 were also confirmed through testing following exposure to family or acquaintances.
Among the 6 new confirmed cases in Gumi, 2 are a couple who visited a screening clinic due to symptoms, and 4 are contacts of confirmed cases related to Daegu Yeongsin Church, a religious facility located in Gumi.
In Pohang, 4 people were confirmed positive: one contact of a confirmed case from Jeju, one contact of a confirmed case from Dongjak-gu, Seoul, and a couple who visited a screening clinic due to symptoms.
In Andong, 4 people tested positive: 2 contacts of residents confirmed on the 11th (Andong cases 67 and 68), 1 contact of the confirmed case on the 11th (Andong case 81), and 1 person who was tested at a screening clinic due to symptoms.
In Gyeongsan, 4 people tested positive: 2 contacts of a Yeongcheon resident confirmed on the 17th related to Daegu Yeongsin Church (Yeongcheon case 52), 1 person who underwent pre-admission diagnostic testing for hospital admission, and 1 person who visited a screening clinic due to symptoms.
In Gimcheon, 2 contacts of a resident confirmed on the 17th (Gimcheon case 74) tested positive. In Yeongju and Gunwi, 1 person who visited a screening clinic due to symptoms and 1 person who was tested while in self-quarantine due to a family member's (Gunwi case 9) confirmed infection were each confirmed positive.
