Seven Eleven, Maeil Dairy Collaboration Dessert Series Launch
December Dessert Sales Increase by 61.9%
Residential and Office Districts Up 107.0% and 76.7% Respectively
Three New Products Released Including Milk Cream Roll Cake and Fresh Cream Castella
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Seven Eleven announced on the 18th that it has launched a 'Dessert Series' in collaboration with Maeil Dairies.
The newly released products include three types: ‘Milk Cream Roll Cake’, ‘Fresh Cream Castella’, and ‘Souffl? Cheesecake’. These are premium desserts made using Maeil Milk's raw milk to capture the authentic taste of milk. The 'Milk Cream Roll Cake' is a product utilizing Maeil Dairies' lactose-free milk, ‘Easily Digestible Milk’, and was introduced as a year-end season special at the end of last month. The price is 20,000 KRW. The ‘Milk Cream Roll Cake’ can be pre-ordered at nearby Seven Eleven stores until the 21st and will be delivered free of charge to the specified address.
The ‘Fresh Cream Castella’ is a product featuring moist castella bread filled with soft and fresh cream made from Maeil Milk. The price is 3,200 KRW. The ‘Souffl? Cheesecake’ is completed by topping a rich souffl? cheesecake with bavarois (a pudding and mousse hybrid) made from choux cream and milk cream.
The reason Seven Eleven is expanding its dessert lineup is due to increasing related sales. This year, with the impact of the novel coronavirus infection, the number of ‘home cafe’ enthusiasts has increased, and dessert consumption at convenience stores appears to be growing further. According to Seven Eleven, from December 1 to 17, when social distancing measures were strengthened, total dessert sales increased by 61.9% compared to the same period last year. As more people naturally stayed at home, sales in residential areas rose by 107.0%, and with the reduced activity range of office workers, sales in office districts also increased by 76.7%. The demand for desserts shifted more to convenience stores due to restrictions on cafes, bakeries, and specialty shops.
