Yeonggwang-gun Approves Establishment of Inland Fisheries Association Near Bulgab Reservoir
Plan for Joint Fishing License Disposition
[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seong-jeong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 17th that it plans to approve the establishment of an inland fisheries cooperative for local residents around Bulgab Reservoir and grant a joint fishery license as part of measures to revitalize inland fisheries.
This plan aims to revitalize inland fisheries, which have a weak production base, and develop new fishery income sources. Until now, capturing or harvesting aquatic resources in Bulgab Reservoir was illegal, but it is expected that legal fishing will be possible in the future.
In this regard, to efficiently use and manage aquatic resources and establish a sustainable production base, 3.1 billion KRW will be invested by next year in Bulgab Reservoir for an idle reservoir resource development project to create spawning environments and ecological habitats such as artificial spawning grounds and artificial aquatic plant islands.
After eradicating invasive species such as bluegill and bass, the idle reservoir resource development project is also promoting the release of economically valuable native species such as carp, crucian carp, eel, and Dongjagae (Korean bullhead).
Linked with Bulgab Theme Park tourism resources, an ecological experience center will be established to activate inland water experience tourism, where visitors can observe fish spawning, waterfronts, and aquatic plants, providing tourists with new attractions.
