[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A colder and tougher time due to COVID-19, sharing warmth through cakes.
Dongmyung University (President Jeong Hong-seop) will hold the 2020 Love Cake Making and Sharing event for vulnerable groups in Nam-gu from December 21 to 23 at the Kang Seok-jin Start-up Village on the 3rd floor of the International Industry-Academia Cooperation Building.
The Nam-gu Youth Creative Development Center and Dongmyung University Makerspace are assisting with the event.
The motivation behind the event is the hope that neighbors in welfare blind spots, who are having even harder days due to COVID-19, can spend a warmer and healthier winter.
Faculty, staff, and volunteers will work together with experts to make 400 cakes to gift to marginalized groups.
Cake making will take place over two days starting on the 21st. Then, at 9:30 a.m. on the 23rd, a ceremony to deliver 200 cake sets will be held at the Nam-gu Mayor’s Office, attended by Dongmyung University President Jeong Hong-seop, Vice President Shin Dong-seok, and Nam-gu Mayor Park Jae-beom. The remaining 200 cakes will be gifted by Dongmyung University to local childcare centers, police stations, and 119 safety centers.
Since June, Dongmyung University’s LINC+ Project Group has been collaborating with the Busan Nam-gu Urban Regeneration Division (Director Lee Mi-yeon) and Yongho-dong Urban Regeneration Field Support Center (Center Director Jo Seung-gu) on support activities such as the Yongho-dong Urban Regeneration Residents’ University community garden and home repairs, which have led to this year-end sharing event.
Dongmyung University also operates the Nam-gu Youth Creative Development Center with the Busan Nam-gu Future Growth Office (Director Han Gwang-young) Youth Policy Team, implementing various programs including employment and start-up support projects to create youth jobs.
Shin Dong-seok, Director of the LINC+ Project Group, said, “I am pleased that the cakes made directly by faculty and staff can be delivered to socially vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and child-headed households, as well as to those serving the local community, contributing to making Busan a warmer place.”
