Professor Kang previously served as the president of the International Society for Musculoskeletal Disease Prevention in 2013, as well as the director of the Workers' Health Center and the Asbestos Environmental Health Center. He is currently leading preventive research on occupational and environmental diseases related to asbestos.

As the next 18th president of the Korean Society of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, he is expected to lead investigations and research to protect and promote the health of workers and local residents from occupational diseases and environmental illnesses, as well as to spearhead institutional improvements in the fields of occupational environmental diseases, industrial health, and environmental health.
