Yangju City Entrusts 'Public Building Management' to Private Experts
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-chul] Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province will deploy private architects with expertise to public architectural projects in order to manage public buildings systematically and professionally.
The city announced on the 17th that "it will fully introduce a private expert system to enhance the quality of public buildings and improve urban design competitiveness."
The 'Private Expert for Public Buildings' system is a program where experts manage and advise on the entire process of public facility projects, from planning and design to construction and maintenance.
Earlier in October, the city recruited and selected one chief architect to oversee the composition of private experts and appointed about 10 public architects.
The final selected chief architect will be commissioned by the end of this year after a background check and will serve a two-year term, during which they will be responsible for policy establishment regarding Yangju City's spatial environment and provide coordination and advice on architectural policies.
The city also plans to publicly recruit about 10 public architects in the first half of next year to draw a future blueprint for public architecture in Yangju City.

Therefore, the city expects to resolve difficulties faced by departments in charge of small-scale projects due to the lack of architectural professionals by collaborating on tasks such as preparing work instructions and calculating project costs.
