GIST-Gwangju Design Promotion Institute Sign MOU for Design Convergence Research and Industrialization
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) announced on the 16th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Gwangju Design Center to revitalize the local industry and promote the development of both institutions for the popularization of design.
The signing ceremony was held simultaneously in the video conference rooms of each institution, attended by key officials including GIST President Kim Ki-seon and Gwangju Design Center Director Wi Seong-ho.
The main contents include ▲ joint discovery and promotion of projects related to the artificial intelligence industry in Gwangju Metropolitan City ▲ participation in joint projects (research, exhibitions, and events) related to the Gwangju Design Biennale ▲ joint discovery and promotion of central government public projects (convergent research, dissemination/expansion) ▲ matters concerning joint promotion of both institutions.
GIST President Kim Ki-seon said, “This MOU is expected to have a positive effect on the industrialization of design and fostering of local key industries for the popular experience and empathy of design, such as hosting the Gwangju Design Biennale.” He added, “We will actively promote joint projects for regional development, such as design convergence research, based on various exchanges and cooperation in the future.”

Gwangju Design Center Director Wi Seong-ho responded, “The Gwangju Design Biennale is establishing itself as an international event in Gwangju,” and said, “During the 2021 Gwangju Design Biennale (theme: ‘D-Revolution’), we will strive to attract foreign students as visitors to the Biennale.”
