KT, Gwanak-gu, and Seoul National University to Establish 'Gwanak S Valley'

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] KT is collaborating with Gwanak-gu and Seoul National University to create the venture startup cluster ‘Gwanak S Valley.’ The aim is to transform Gwanak-gu into a startup hub comparable to Silicon Valley in the United States and Zhongguancun in China.
On the 16th, KT signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Gwanak-gu and Seoul National University regarding this initiative. The ‘Gwanak S Valley’ project involves establishing Asia’s largest startup nurturing cluster in Gwanak-gu. KT will support Gwanak-gu by ▲discovering and attracting ventures ▲expanding venture infrastructure ▲deploying outstanding human resources such as Seoul National University students and professors ▲providing capacity-building education ▲linking venture investments. Additionally, through participation in the ‘In-house Venture Program’ supported by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, various benefits will be offered to startups selected in the KT Startup Competition.

KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo said, “We are very pleased to contribute to the national policy focused on an innovative startup nation,” adding, “By combining KT’s incubation capabilities, Gwanak-gu’s policy support, and Seoul National University’s human resources, the effects of innovative startups can spread throughout the economy.” Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, emphasized, “This agreement strengthens the mutual cooperation system with Seoul National University, the top university in Korea, and KT, a leader in Korea’s information technology, accelerating the promotion of the Gwanak S Valley project.” Seoul National University President Oh Se-jung stated, “The participation of Seoul National University, Gwanak-gu, and KT in Gwanak S Valley will serve as a momentum for creating an innovation startup cluster linking the region, university, and industry.”
