KOSPI Turns Up After Three Days, Closes at 2770 Level... KOSDAQ Continues 6-Day Winning Streak
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI rebounded after three days and closed at the 2770 level. The KOSDAQ index also rose nearly 1%, continuing its upward trend for six consecutive trading days.
On the 16th, the KOSPI closed at 2771.79, up 14.97 points (0.54%) from the previous day. The KOSPI started the day higher and maintained an increase of around 0.5% throughout the session, finishing with a slight gain.
Looking at trading trends by participant, institutional investors net bought 196.9 billion KRW, while individual and foreign investors net sold 137.1 billion KRW and 44.1 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, paper and wood (3.99%), chemicals (2.18%), insurance (1.59%), and banking (1.08%) rose, while electric and gas utilities (-1.10%), pharmaceuticals (-0.28%), and construction (-0.16%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, LG Household & Health Care (3.52%), LG Chem (2.25%), Samsung SDI (2.17%), POSCO (0.93%), and NAVER (0.88%) rose, whereas Celltrion (-1.81%) and Hyundai Mobis (-1.54%) fell.
On the KOSPI market that day, 542 stocks rose, including two that hit the upper price limit, 284 stocks fell with no stocks hitting the lower price limit, and 84 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also continued its six-day winning streak, closing at 935.65, up 8.38 points (0.90%) from the previous trading day. The KOSDAQ started higher and, like the KOSPI, maintained gains throughout the day, surpassing the 940 mark in the late session with over a 1% increase.
By participant, foreign and institutional investors led the index rise with net purchases of 73.1 billion KRW and 62.8 billion KRW, respectively, while individual investors net sold 83.5 billion KRW to realize profits.
By sector, paper and wood (6.01%), IT components (3.40%), publishing and media replication (2.85%), and digital content (2.48%) rose, while distribution (-1.32%), other services (-0.19%), and entertainment and culture (-0.14%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Pearl Abyss (6.97%), SK Materials (4.14%), CJ ENM (3.48%), EcoPro BM (3.08%), and Genexine (1.59%) rose, while Celltrion Pharm (-2.71%), Seegene (-2.64%), and Celltrion Healthcare (-2.28%) fell.
