Gimcheon City, together with Gyeongbuk Province, has been conducting a basic research service for the past six months to establish a shared electric scooter system within the innovation city. Micro e-mobility, such as electric scooters usable in urban areas, is currently one of the spotlighted future mobility options.
It is suitable for traveling the last mile (the short distance remaining to the final destination within the city) in connection with public transportation such as trains and buses, and has recently been introduced by many local governments.
At the report meeting, specific plans were discussed based on the high demand for shared services. According to a preliminary survey, 274 out of 300 respondents (91.5%) expressed their willingness to use the shared service.
The Gyeongbuk IT Convergence Industry Technology Institute, which conducted this research service, presented a blueprint for a future city through a shared micro e-mobility system along with the electric scooter plan.
In the first phase, shared mobility (electric scooters) will be established; in the second phase, a micro e-mobility platform will be developed (utilizing shared ultra-compact electric vehicles, short-distance logistics delivery services, etc.); and in the third phase, autonomous shuttle services will be expanded.
Gimcheon City plans to start the first phase of electric scooters with a budget of 1 to 2 billion KRW, no later than the second half of next year.
