1.5 Million Won and 2.5 Million Won Respectively for Whistleblowers Reporting Misconduct
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Two whistleblowers who reported corruption in the Busan education field will receive reward money of 4 million KRW.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seok-jun) announced on the 16th that it has decided to pay rewards to whistleblowers who reported misconduct in the education field through the education corruption reporting center "Hotline."
This whistleblowing case includes two incidents: ▲ illegal fundraising from parents by the sports team of A Elementary School to cover operating expenses and coaches' salaries, and ▲ improper accounting management and unfair support of after-school operating expenses at B Kindergarten.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Whistleblower Protection Support Committee decided on the 14th, after deliberation, to pay 1.5 million KRW to the whistleblower related to A Elementary School's sports team and 2.5 million KRW to the whistleblower related to B Kindergarten. The reward money will be paid in December.
The Whistleblower Protection Support Committee consists of a total of nine members: five external members including city councilors, lawyers, certified public accountants, and parents, and four internal members from the education office. The committee deliberates and resolves matters related to whistleblower investigations and reward payments.
Earlier, to promote whistleblowing, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has been enforcing the "Ordinance on the Handling of Whistleblowing and Protection and Compensation of Whistleblowers by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education" since March.
Since March, a "Whistleblowing Center" has also been established and operated to strengthen protection and support for whistleblowers.
