Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, 3rd Anniversary of Housing Welfare Roadmap 'Housing Welfare Festival'
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held the '2020 Housing Welfare Workers Festival' on the 16th in Sejong City to mark the 3rd anniversary of the announcement of the Housing Welfare Roadmap.
Since 2005, the annual Housing Welfare Workers Festival has been a gathering of housing welfare stakeholders including local governments, public enterprises, financial institutions, and housing welfare centers to share the achievements and best practices of housing welfare projects.
This year, under the slogan "Together for Housing Welfare, Happily for All," the event was held to share excellent cases that contributed to the housing improvement of vulnerable groups.
However, due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the event was converted to an online format, and only the presentation of best practices and the awards ceremony were held.
At this event, after presentations on excellent cases such as the improvement of the housing environment in jjokbangchon (small-room villages) and support for free dormitories for university students, awards were given to contributors to housing welfare.
At the event, Yeongdeungpo-gu in Seoul and Gwangju Urban Corporation received the Presidential Citation, while Jongkundang Gochon Scholarship Foundation, Incheon Urban Corporation, and Bucheon Urban Corporation each received the Prime Minister's Citation. There were presentations of cases from five outstanding housing welfare institutions.
Yeongdeungpo-gu in Seoul was the first to select Yeongdeungpo jjokbangchon, a cluster of old and poor-quality housing with poor living conditions, as a public housing project district, leading the redevelopment of the jjokbangchon area.
Gwangju Urban Corporation presented a new paradigm by improving the housing environment of permanent rental apartment complexes and alleviating housing cost burdens to attract young residents, addressing the issues of vacancies in permanent rental complexes and the outflow of local youth.
The Jongkundang Gochon Foundation, as the first private scholarship foundation, has been operating free dormitories since 2011, providing all expenses free of charge for housing to 1,228 university students from rural areas.
Incheon Urban Corporation opened a housing welfare center last September to provide fair and easy access to housing welfare services for vulnerable groups, supporting customized housing welfare without blind spots.
