Starting Next Year, Healthy Individuals Will Enlist as Active Duty Soldiers Regardless of Educational Background
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Starting next year, individuals with education levels below high school dropout who are healthy will be enlisted as active-duty soldiers.
On the 16th, the Military Manpower Administration announced that it will administratively announce a revision abolishing military service dispositions based on educational background starting next year. According to the revision, with the abolition of military service dispositions based on education, all healthy individuals will be enlisted as active-duty soldiers regardless of their educational background.
Until now, military service dispositions were determined based on education and physical grade. Accordingly, high school dropouts, middle school graduates, and dropouts were assigned to supplementary service regardless of physical grade. Among them, those with physical grades 1 to 3 could serve as active-duty soldiers if they wished. Last year, the number of supplementary service dispositions for middle school dropouts, middle school graduates, and high school dropouts was a total of 3,134. Among them, 629 wished to serve as active-duty soldiers.
