Hamyang-gun Expands Folic Acid Support for Women of Childbearing Age Preparing for Pregnancy
If You Are Planning Pregnancy, Take Folic Acid at Least 1 Month in Advance, Free Support for 3 Months Before and After Pregnancy
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Hamyang-gun Public Health Center in Gyeongnam announced on the 16th that it will provide folic acid supplements to women of childbearing age preparing for pregnancy to promote healthy pregnancy and childbirth.
If the mother's folic acid is insufficient in the early stages of pregnancy, it can lead to neural tube defects resulting in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the birth of a baby with congenital malformations.
Neural tube defects can occur within the first 4 weeks of early pregnancy, a period when it is difficult to determine whether pregnancy has occurred.
Since it is hard to tell if one is pregnant during this time, if you are planning a pregnancy, taking folic acid consistently from 3 months before pregnancy until 3 months into pregnancy can help prevent this.
Folic acid is one of the B vitamins and is abundant in various vegetables including green and yellow vegetables, strawberries (fresh), oranges, tomatoes, and kiwis, but there are limits to obtaining enough from food alone, so taking it as a supplement is helpful.
Women of childbearing age residing in Hamyang-gun who are planning pregnancy and interested in healthy pregnancy and childbirth can visit the public health center with identification and documents proving marriage to apply.
Folic acid supplements can be provided only once, covering the period from 3 months before pregnancy to 3 months after pregnancy.
