[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Pohang City announced on the 15th that it has secured 54.2 billion KRW in national funding for next year for a total of 15 projects, including 2 in the water supply sector and 13 in the sewage sector, to ensure safe water quality management.
In the water supply sector, 9.2 billion KRW (total project cost 19.8 billion KRW) was secured for the smart pipeline management infrastructure construction project utilizing ICT technology, and 8.5 billion KRW was secured for the local water supply modernization project replacing aging water pipes (total project cost 49.3 billion KRW).
The smart pipeline management infrastructure construction project is a project that has been underway since 2019 and will be completed next year. By installing automatic drains, real-time pressure gauges, smart pipeline information recognition systems, and water quality measuring devices, real-time monitoring of water quantity and quality becomes possible. This will prevent water quality accidents such as rust and red water in advance and ensure tap water safety by preventing water supply interruptions through the establishment of a block system.
In the sewage sector, a total of 36.5 billion KRW was secured, including 2.2 billion KRW for the Songra public sewage treatment facility installation, 2.5 billion KRW for aging sewage pipeline maintenance projects, and 11.9 billion KRW for six sewage pipeline maintenance projects separating stormwater and sewage pipelines.
The Songra public sewage treatment facility's detailed design service will be completed in March next year. Pohang City stated that once the facility installation is completed by 2023, it will preemptively block sewage in the Songra area, where tourists increase, improving the water quality flowing into the East Coast.
Along with this, Pohang City will continue to promote the first phase of aging sewage pipeline maintenance (7 km in length) and sewage pipeline maintenance projects in five districts including the Steel Industrial Complex (29 km). In the case of the Steel Industrial Complex sewage pipeline maintenance project, national funding of 4 billion KRW was secured, an increase of 3.5 billion KRW from the original amount, enabling the maintenance of 8.75 km of pipelines and installation of 400 drainage facilities.
