Jeju Coast Guard Investigates Vessel with Unqualified Illegal Foreign Crew Members
Second Arrest Since Last September
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters (Jeju) Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] Jeju Maritime Police Station (Chief Go Min-gwan) announced on the 14th that they arrested a captain and foreign crew members who employed two Vietnamese crew members without proper qualifications on a fishing vessel, violating the Immigration Control Act.
According to the Jeju Maritime Police Station, on December 4th at around 4:33 PM, they confirmed that a foreigner without crew qualifications was on board fishing vessel A, which had departed for fishing. On the 13th, while vessel A was fishing, a patrol ship was dispatched to conduct an inspection at sea. As a result, two Vietnamese crew members, Mr. N, who lacked crew qualifications, and Mr. L, who had not changed his workplace, along with the vessel owner Mr. B, who illegally employed them, were arrested.
The Jeju Maritime Police have been conducting a "Special Crackdown on Unqualified Foreign Crew Members" since August 15th. This arrest is the second case following the arrest of fishing vessel C on September 22nd, which was caught operating with 10 illegally employed foreign workers including undocumented immigrants.
