'Idle Operation' at Incheon Port Cruise Terminal... Seeking Utilization Plans for Citizen Convenience Facilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon Port Authority is preparing measures to revitalize marine tourism by utilizing the Incheon Port Cruise Terminal, lighthouse, and surrounding areas.
According to the authority on the 13th, although the Incheon Port Cruise Terminal opened in April last year, no cruise ships have docked this year due to the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) conflict between Korea and China and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Even after the end of COVID-19, since cruise ships do not dock daily, there is a need to maintain the vitality of the cruise terminal during normal times as well.
Accordingly, the authority plans to explore various measures such as installing convenience facilities accessible to citizens even if the cruise terminal is in a 'pause' state due to external adverse factors.
First, they will identify usable spaces within the cruise terminal and lighthouse facilities, set concepts suitable for the characteristics of those spaces, and review facilities to attract visitors.
Additionally, they plan to develop various tourism resources such as holding local festivals in connection with the nearby Golden Harbor Park and collaborate with Incheon City and Incheon Tourism Organization to make it a local attraction.
Lee Jeonghaeng, Vice President of Operations at Incheon Port Authority, stated, "Although cruise passengers have been suspended due to COVID-19, we plan to expand the function of the cruise terminal as a marine tourism facility that citizens can always enjoy."
