According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 13th, morning temperatures on the 14th are expected to drop sharply (by 5 to 10 degrees) as cold air flows in from the northwest starting in the afternoon. A cold wave warning has been issued for Seoul, northern Gyeonggi, Yeongseo region of Gangwon, parts of northern Chungbuk, and northern inland Gyeongbuk.
Most regions nationwide are expected to have morning temperatures below -5 degrees Celsius tomorrow. In particular, eastern Gyeonggi, Chungbuk, northern Gyeongbuk, and Yeongseo of Gangwon will see temperatures fall below -10 degrees Celsius. Strong winds will also make the wind chill temperature even lower, resulting in very cold conditions.
In areas where the cold wave advisory has been issued, there is a possibility of cold-related illnesses due to the rapid temperature drop. When going outside, it is important to wear thermal underwear, scarves, gloves, or dress in multiple layers to keep warm. Especially the elderly and children who are vulnerable to the cold should pay close attention to their health.
Meanwhile, the heavy snow advisory issued earlier in the morning has mostly been lifted, but from the 14th, due to the temperature difference between the lower atmosphere and sea surface, cloud bands will form over the West Sea, bringing heavy snowfall mainly to the western coast of Jeolla and the mountainous areas of Jeju Island. Expected snowfall amounts are 5 to 20 cm for the western coast of Jeolla, Jeju mountainous areas, and Ulleungdo and Dokdo, and 2 to 7 cm for Jeolla (excluding the western and eastern coasts), the western coast of Chungnam, and Jeju (excluding mountainous areas).
