View original image[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province is expanding the operation of temporary screening clinics to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections.
On the 13th, Goyang City announced, "From the 14th until January 3rd of next year, we will additionally operate temporary screening clinics at four transportation hub locations, including Hwajeong Station and Jeongbalsan Station."
Earlier, starting from the 11th, the city installed additional COVID-19 screening clinics at three locations: Hwajeong Culture Plaza (Exit 4 of Hwajeong Station), Goyang Tourist Information Center (Exits 1 and 2 of Jeongbalsan Station), and Gyeongui Line Ilsan Station Plaza. Including the reopened 'Safe Car' screening clinic (Jugo 1st Public Parking Lot) operated on the same day, a total of four temporary screening clinics are in operation.
In particular, the three temporary screening clinics located near Hwajeong Station, Jeongbalsan Station, and Ilsan Station primarily use the highly accurate existing RT-PCR test method, and also offer the 'Rapid Antigen Test' (90% accuracy), which can confirm infection status on-site, to citizens who wish to take it.
According to the city’s health authorities, the RT-PCR test method requires sending samples to specialized institutions, with results available at least six hours later, and it has high accuracy. The Rapid Antigen Test method can determine infection status within 15 to 30 minutes on-site, effectively preventing further infections after testing.
If a positive result is found on-site, an additional sample is collected using the RT-PCR method, and the individual is immediately placed under self-quarantine. Upon final confirmation, they are transferred to a living treatment center or designated hospital.
The city plans to allow 'anonymous testing' by substituting personal mobile phone numbers for birthdates to encourage as many citizens as possible to get tested, thereby preventing avoidance of testing and stigma against those tested.
The three locations?Hwajeong Culture Plaza (Exit 4 of Hwajeong Station), Goyang Tourist Information Center (Exits 1 and 2 of Jeongbalsan Station), and Gyeongui Line Ilsan Station Plaza?will operate from 1 PM to 8 PM to be accessible even after work hours.
The Safe Car screening clinic (Jugo 1st Public Parking Lot) will operate from 12 PM to 4 PM to allow use during lunchtime by vehicle. It will also operate during weekends at the same hours, with police and military personnel deployed to the quarantine sites.
Mayor Lee Jaejun of Goyang City urged, "To break the chain of COVID-19 spread, anyone suspected of infection, even without symptoms, must get tested for COVID-19 early without time or cost burden, to prevent transmission to family and neighbors."
Meanwhile, all screening clinics in Goyang City offer free PCR testing to all Goyang citizens regardless of symptoms, and rapid antigen tests are only available at the three temporary screening clinics near stations.
