Yoo Seung-min: "Other countries have started vaccinations... Moon Jae-in, apologize for failing to secure vaccines"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Yoo Seung-min, a former member of the People Power Party and a presidential candidate from the opposition, stated on the 13th, "Our government, which boasted that 'K-quarantine is the global standard,' failed to secure vaccines due to incompetence, negligence, and dereliction of duty," and demanded, "President Moon Jae-in should sincerely apologize for the failure to secure vaccines."
On the same day, Yoo pointed out on his Facebook, "Countries we are familiar with, such as the UK, the US, Canada, the European Union, Australia, and Japan, have already secured Pfizer and Moderna vaccines and started vaccinations."
He emphasized, "President Moon said yesterday about the COVID-19 situation that he feels 'deeply sorry and ashamed,' but he did not mention what really needs to be apologized for and resolved," adding, "That is the vaccine."
Yoo criticized, "The president said, 'This is the last hurdle until vaccines and treatments come out,' as if vaccines have not yet been developed, but vaccines are already available. Is he really unaware, or is he reluctant to admit his mistakes?" He also pointed out, "The AstraZeneca vaccine, which was barely secured, is causing problems, and it is uncertain when vaccinations will begin."
He urged, "The president must face the vaccine issue. The people have only trusted the government, diligently worn masks, washed hands, and endured economic hardships," and called on the president to "sincerely apologize for the failure to secure vaccines and hold those responsible in the Blue House and government accountable." He added, "Put all efforts into early vaccine procurement."
Yoo also highlighted, "Another urgent issue is the medical staff," and demanded, "Full support must be provided so that medical personnel nationwide can be effectively deployed for treatment. Allow the 2,749 fourth-year medical students who have not taken the national medical exam to take it and be deployed to treatment sites."
He said, "As the president said, isn't this a 'quarantine emergency situation'? This is a crisis where a single doctor cannot afford to have a pride battle with medical students in desperate circumstances," and added, "As a national leader, he must make a decision and seek the understanding of the people." He also insisted that negative pressure rooms equipped with ventilators should be secured to the maximum extent possible.
