View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] KOTRA is taking steps to revitalize foreign direct investment (FDI), which has been contracted due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). From the 15th, a three-day '2020 Integrated Foreign Investment Attraction Training' will be conducted for officials in charge of foreign investment attraction.
Until now, foreign investment attraction training was held in small-scale individual programs such as Project Manager (PM) training courses, training for investment attraction officers visiting Korea, and practical training for staff. This year, the training courses have been integrated to expand the program and enhance the level of lectures.
The program is composed of a variety of topics ranging from practical foreign investment attraction work to investment trends by country and industry, investment attraction strategies, and Korea's investment attraction environment and system. First, investment attraction strategies in the materials, parts, and equipment sectors such as chemicals and semiconductors will be introduced to establish Korea as a global factory for advanced industries. Additionally, global investment trends will be examined by country, and directions for establishing investment attraction strategies in the three major regions of the United States, the European Union (EU), and China will be presented.
This training will be conducted online in response to the spread of COVID-19. Officials in charge of foreign investment attraction from related organizations such as the government, local governments, and Free Economic Zones (FEZ) will participate in the training remotely. KOTRA has built a dedicated learning page for participants to enhance convenience.

Kwon Pyung-oh, President of KOTRA, stated, "Although global FDI is expected to decrease by 40% this year, Korea attracted $12.9 billion, a 4.4% decrease compared to the same period last year, until the third quarter. Since foreign investment attraction capability is directly linked to national competitiveness, we will enhance the expertise of officials through this training."
