31 Students and 4 Teachers Newly Confirmed... 1,058 Schools Nationwide Fail to Open for Attendance
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] On the 10th, a total of 31 elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide were confirmed positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to the Ministry of Education on the 11th, since the sequential return to school began on May 20, the cumulative number of student COVID-19 cases reached 1,757 as of midnight on that day, an increase of 31 from the previous day.
Additionally, 8 cases that were omitted from the count on September 8-9 were added, resulting in a total increase of 39 student cases compared to the day before.
The number of confirmed cases among school staff also increased by 4, bringing the cumulative total to 329.
Due to the impact of COVID-19, the number of schools that suspended in-person classes nationwide reached 1,058 across 16 cities and provinces as of 10 a.m. that day. The number of schools unable to hold in-person classes was 1,036 on the 10th, marking a return to four digits for the first time in 83 days since September 18, when there were 7,018 schools, and increased by 22 more schools on the 11th.

By region, 756 schools in Seoul were unable to have students attend in person, along with 140 schools in Ulsan, 102 in Gyeonggi, 22 in Gangwon, 8 in Chungbuk, 7 in Daejeon, 6 in Incheon, 3 each in Chungnam and Gyeongnam, 2 each in Busan, Sejong, Jeonbuk, and Gyeongbuk, and 1 each in Daegu, Gwangju, and Jeonnam also suspended in-person classes.
