Muan-gun, Improving Residential Conditions to Change the Quality of Life
Urban Regeneration New Deal, Gymnasium Construction, and More... Expected Improvements in Housing, Culture, and Transportation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-ju] Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 11th that it is promoting various projects to improve residential, cultural, and transportation conditions and to achieve balanced development between urban and rural areas.
Currently, each eup and myeon, including the old downtown area of Muan-eup, is losing vitality due to population decline, aging, and the decline of local commercial districts.
In response, the county is promoting an urban regeneration New Deal project in the Muan-eup area to counteract urban hollowing-out and create residential conditions where people want to stay.
This project aims to improve living environments, revitalize alley economies, and restore urban competitiveness. It includes the Dreamtle Complex Center, which will house cultural facilities such as a public library and a small cinema on the site of the old traditional market, the construction of LH Happy Housing for youth residential stability, home repair support projects, and the creation of community shared facilities.
Additionally, to reduce traffic accidents in Muan-eup, where commercial areas, residential areas, and schools are densely located, pedestrian environment improvement projects linked to the New Deal will be promoted on seven routes with frequent accidents.
Traffic safety facilities such as raised intersections and speed bumps that separate roads and sidewalks and induce vehicle speed reduction will be installed to create a pedestrian-friendly road environment.
A breeze of change is also expected to blow through the underdeveloped eup and myeon centers. The county is promoting the Mongtan-myeon Basic Living Base Development Project and rural hub revitalization projects in five eup and myeon including Unnam-myeon and Hyeongyeong-myeon to strengthen the functions of regional centers.
Community centers, bathhouses, and other living infrastructure will be expanded, entrances will be maintained, and rest areas will be created to improve the landscape. In Mongtan-myeon, a ceramic street decorated with beautiful patterns will also be established. Upon completion, each eup and myeon center is expected to be transformed into a colorful themed space with pleasant residential conditions.
Not only rural areas but also Naman New Town and Oryong District will be transformed into safe and pleasant premium cities centered on people.
To solve the long-standing parking inconvenience for Naman residents, 10 additional temporary public parking lots will be created using idle land, and a sports facility with a total floor area of 7,900㎡, equipped with a swimming pool and a multipurpose gymnasium for residents to enjoy various sports, is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2024.
Oryong District, developed as an eco-friendly ecological city, currently has a population of about 5,000 and is expected to house 9,800 households and about 25,000 people by 2024.
Oryong District is a pedestrian-centered city where sunken roads allow access to schools, shops, and parks without interference from vehicles and traffic signals. A 1.8 km green space where all four seasons can be felt and a cypress forest emitting phytoncides will be created. In addition, various basic infrastructures are steadily being expanded in preparation for population growth.
If the residential environment improvement projects promoted by Muan-gun are successfully completed, it is expected to naturally attract population inflow and take a step closer to achieving the goal of reaching a population of 100,000 and the promotion to Muan City, which has been a focus during the 7th local government administration.
