According to Bloomberg News on the 10th (local time), Emhoff will teach a 2-credit course titled "Entertainment Legal Disputes" at Georgetown Law starting next spring semester. Emhoff has worked as an outstanding attorney in the fields of media and entertainment law and intellectual property rights for about 30 years. He plans to leverage this experience to nurture future legal professionals. Additionally, he intends to conduct research at Georgetown's Institute for Technology Law and Policy.
Earlier, Emhoff resigned from DLA Piper after Kamala Harris was elected Vice President in November. DLA Piper, a major law firm specializing in entertainment, also has a department that lobbies the federal government on behalf of corporate clients, which had raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest.
In a statement released by Georgetown University, Emhoff said, "I have long wanted to teach and train the next generation of young lawyers," and added, "I am pleased to become a part of Georgetown."
William Treanor, Dean of Georgetown Law, said, "Emhoff is a leading figure in U.S. intellectual property and corporate litigation with a strong commitment to social justice. Our students will gain great learning opportunities from his experience and insight, and we eagerly await his arrival."
