Jeonnam Provincial Council Strongly Condemns 'Breach of Promise on Private Airport Relocation'

In a statement, the council said, "Mayor Lee Yong-seop committed an outrageous act by breaking the promise to relocate the private airport, which was a symbol of coexistence and harmony during the 7th local government term," and urged, "Keep the promise to relocate Gwangju Private Airport to Muan International Airport by next year."
The council criticized, "On the 9th, Mayor Lee Yong-seop of Gwangju Metropolitan City effectively nullified the relocation by stating, 'The timing of the relocation of Gwangju Private Airport will be decided along with the military airport issue by the four-party consultative body.'
They added, "The mayor reversed the promise made in August 2018 through the 'Muan International Airport Revitalization Agreement' to relocate and integrate Gwangju Private Airport into Muan International Airport by next year," and pointed out, "It is clearly evident from the national airport-related plans and the announcement by the then Minister of Construction and Transportation, who is the current Mayor Lee Yong-seop, that the private airport relocation was pursued independently of the military airport relocation."
They continued, "By conflating the integration of the private airport and the relocation of the military airport with sophistry, he overturned the atmosphere of coexistence between Gwangju and Jeonnam, where discussions on administrative integration between the city and province were underway, leaving a deep wound in the hearts of Jeonnam residents."
