‘Fake’ Groom Disappears Just 15 Days After Wedding... In-Laws, Guests, and Newlywed Home All Fake
Busanjin Police Station Arrests Man in His 40s on Fraud Charges for Embezzling Over 500 Million Won Using Marriage Scam
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A handsome man in his 40s, who was believed to be a wealthy businessman operating an urban parking lot and had started a newlywed life in an apartment he supposedly owned, disappeared just fifteen days after his wedding.
However, the parking lot was not his, and the newlywed home was rented. He was a fraudster who deceived his bride with lies and embezzled a large sum of money as investment funds. The crime of this "ghost groom" was exposed.
On the 9th, the Busanjin Police Station in Busan arrested a man in his 40s, identified as Mr. A.
The police announced on the 10th that Mr. A was arrested on charges of approaching women while posing as a parking lot businessman, using marriage as bait to date them, and collecting approximately 547 million KRW from the women and their families under the pretext of business funds.
Mr. A fled fifteen days after the wedding, before the marriage registration.
The woman, who had been leaving her car in the monthly parking lot, married Mr. A after dating him for a year, whom she met by chance at the parking lot.
Fake parents-in-law and guests were mobilized for the wedding. The bride had no reason to doubt the "groom" as she received congratulations from the groom’s parents, relatives, and "friends."
The groom told his parents that he would inherit the parking lot and building and even prepared an apartment as their newlywed home.
The bride’s dream quickly shattered. One day, just before the marriage registration, the groom said he would go for a short bike ride but never returned. The in-laws who attended the wedding were also unreachable.
Worried about the groom, the bride visited the parking lot where he worked and his acquaintances, only to hear shocking stories.
The parking lot, which the groom claimed was his family’s property, belonged to someone else. The groom was merely an employee who worked there temporarily.
The parents-in-law were fake. The guests on the groom’s side who attended the wedding were part-time workers hired by an agency.
The newlywed home was also rented, not owned by the groom. The bride firmly believed he was her husband and even handed over a large sum of money before the marriage under the pretext of gift tax and investment costs.
The woman immediately reported to the police. The police found out that Mr. A, who left on a bike, had gone to Mokpo and then headed to Jeju Island.
After two months of police pursuit, Mr. A was caught in Jeju Island.
