On the 10th, Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province announced, "On the 8th, Congressman Lee Yong-woo and Hong Jung-min, along with Mayor Lee Jae-jun of Goyang City, held a meeting at KINTEX to discuss the overall status and improvement plans for the transportation network in the Ilsan area as part of the Northwest Gyeonggi Metropolitan Transportation Improvement meeting."
During the meeting, confirmed or under-construction projects such as the expansion and increased frequency of the Gyeongui Line and the Daegok Sosa Line, as well as future projects under consultation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), were discussed. However, it was confirmed that the promotion of Siksay Station is facing difficulties due to economic feasibility and funding issues.
Previously, in 2007, discussions about introducing light rail along with the sale of approximately 7,000 apartment units took place in Siksadong, but after the 2008 decision to postpone the light rail project, residents have held rallies and filed complaints due to inconvenient traffic conditions.
In response, Goyang City and Congressman Hong Jung-min are persuading relevant government departments to include the promotion of Siksay Station in the December Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan.
To resolve funding issues, Congressman Hong, who has been negotiating with relevant departments, requested that LH also bear financial support necessary for the promotion of Siksay Station, while also asking Goyang City to share part of the financial burden.
Goyang City, which expressed willingness to share part of the funding, has proactively established a special railway project account following the announcement of the Changneung New Town to secure the budget.
The city is also demanding MOLIT and LH to recognize the necessity of promoting Siksay Station and to reflect it in the Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan, stating that if it is not included, they will not cooperate in any matters related to the 3rd New Town, aligning their stance with Congressman Hong.
