According to market research firm Strategy Analytics on the 10th, Samsung Electronics' projected smartphone shipments for this year are estimated at 254.9 million units. Apple, which was third last year with 202 million units, is expected to move up to second place. Huawei (187.9 million units) ranks third, followed by Xiaomi (154.3 million units) in fourth place.
Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Samsung Electronics' shipments decreased by 40.2 million units compared to 2019. The poor performance of the Galaxy S20 in the first half had a significant effect. Huawei's shipments dropped by 52.6 million units, compounded by the US government's chipset export restrictions. On the other hand, Apple increased shipments by 5.3 million units, supported by the second-generation iPhone SE in the first half and the iPhone 12 series in the second half. Xiaomi's shipments rose by as much as 29.5 million units compared to last year.
