Baidu Encyclopedia: "Kimchi Originated from China During the Three Kingdoms Period"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] It has been revealed that China's Baidu Encyclopedia changed the description of "kimchi originating in China" to "introduced from China during the Three Kingdoms period."
According to the Global Times, the English edition of China's Huanqiu Shibao, on the 9th, the entry regarding the origin controversy of kimchi on Baidu Encyclopedia was revised the day before. Previously, it stated that "kimchi originated in China," but the recent update mentioned a specific period, the Three Kingdoms era.
The section cited a 2013 Xinhua News article stating, "Kimchi went through several important stages and was introduced from China during the Three Kingdoms period." Additionally, the part mentioning "Korean kimchi has a history of 3,000 years" was removed.
The Global Times also described the recent protests by Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University and the cyber diplomatic mission VANK against Baidu Encyclopedia's explanation that "kimchi originated in China" as an "unnecessary commotion."
