New COVID-19 Cases in Japan Exceed 2,700, Setting a New Record High

According to NHK broadcast data on the 9th, the total number of new confirmed cases announced by metropolitan governments and airport quarantine stations nationwide is 2,746 (as of 6:44 PM), including 572 in Tokyo. This number greatly exceeds the previous highest daily new cases of 2,678 reported on the 28th of last month.
As of this day, Japan's cumulative confirmed cases have surpassed 170,000. In Japan, the number of new infections sharply increased ahead of the winter season, first reaching the 2,000 range on the 18th of last month.
