‘Brightened Urban Area’ Hampyeong-gun Launches Public Art Project in Full Swing

According to Hampyeong-gun on the 9th, the public art project is a business that installs and operates artworks in public places to create jobs for local artists who have been depressed due to COVID-19 and to enhance residents' cultural enjoyment.
It is being promoted as part of the Cultural New Deal project by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Jeollanam-do, and Hampyeong-gun.
In September, through a public contest, the county selected the ‘Jigu Baljeon Ora’ team, composed of young artists from the Jeonnam region, as the project operator and supported a total project budget of 400 million won, including artist labor costs and artwork production costs.
Through this project, the county plans to install various public artworks in Hampyeong Expo Park, Hwayang Neighborhood Park, Susanbong, and other locations.
In particular, it plans to utilize local resources such as the local representative festivals including the Butterfly Festival and the Gukhwang Grand Exhibition, as well as the Golden Bat, Hampyeong Bay Sunset, and Gomakcheon Stone Bridge, expressing them through art to use Hampyeong Bay's distinctive story as a tourism resource.

The project period is until February next year. During this period, two sculptures, ten murals, and non-face-to-face education kits for 1,000 local residents will be created and distributed throughout the town area, and an archive featuring the Hampyeong-eup area as a background will also be conducted.
